Kick Cancer Pep Rally and 5K Run A Success in Schertz
Mays Cancer Center Annual Report
In 2020, the newly branded Kick Cancer Pep Rally and 5K Run — formerly known as the Wilenchik Walk for Life — found its new home at Pickrell Park in Schertz, Texas. The event was held on March 5, 2020, and continues to honor the legacy of the late Tony Wilenchik, who lost his heroic battle with Leiomyosarcoma (a rare form of cancer), in 2009.
Funds raised from this event support the efforts of the Mays Cancer Center’s research and drug development program. The City of Schertz team has raised nearly $330,000 over the 12-year history of this popular event.
The team plans to continue creating new, innovative and safe ways to engage the community while raising funds to aid in the fight against cancer. The city is working to add a virtual option to this event to ensure safety as well as to accommodate those who are unable to attend an in-person event.
