A Memorial Fund is a thoughtful way to give back to a meaningful cause while also honoring the memory of a loved one.

After Mr. Weldon “Louis” Schorp Jr. passed away, his wife Mrs. Dorothy Schorp wanted to find an impactful way to honor his legacy. Mr. Schorp, who was an Air Force veteran and a loving father of five, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2010. He underwent a series of treatments at the Mays Cancer Center and fought valiantly for five years. In October 2015, he lost his battle with cancer. Dorothy stated,

“After Weldon lost his brave fight, I wanted to create a fund that would not only honor his memory, but also reflect our admiration and gratitude for the clinical staff who made a huge difference in the lives of our family during such a difficult time.”

Mrs. Schorp decided to honor her husband’s legacy by working with the staff at UT Health San Antonio to establish the Schorp Memorial Clinical Fund. She thought that establishing this fund would be a great way to not only honor her husband’s memory, but to also show her gratitude to his health care team.

Proceeds from the Schorp Memorial Clinical Fund support the work of clinicians at the Mays Cancer Center. Mrs. Schorp continues to donate to this fund yearly in memory of her beloved husband and in honor of their five children.

In addition to providing support for general programs and services, memorial funds also can be established to provide aid to various essential initiatives that benefit patients, clinicians, researchers, and our community.

We are grateful to the following families for establishing thoughtful memorial funds to honor the legacy of their loved ones:
