Vulcan Materials Company is one of the largest aggregate materials organizations in the United States. The company’s Southwest Division, located in San Antonio, has supported the Mays Cancer Center for the past 26 years through its very successful fundraiser, the Vulcan Fun Shoot. This popular sporting-clay shooting competition consists of approximately 75 teams of five individuals who participate in a full day of fun, barbecue, silent auction, live auction and camaraderie for the whole family.

2019 marked the 25th anniversary of the Vulcan Fun Shoot that is organized and run by the employees and volunteers of Vulcan. With more than 450 attendees, this Fun Shoot raised more than $200,000, bringing the cumulative funds raised over the event’s 25-year history to more than $3 million to support groundbreaking cancer research and important programs at the Mays Cancer Center.

Jeff Lott, president of Vulcan Southwest Division and member of the Board of Governors at the Mays Cancer Center, said, “We are honored to support the cancer center and do our part to help fund innovative discoveries that we hope will lead to new cures for cancer. We have all been touched by cancer, and we want to make a difference right here in our home community. Our employees invest countless hours of hard work to ensure the success of this fundraiser every year, and we take great pride in knowing that our efforts are making a significant impact.”

Ruben A. Mesa, M.D., FACP, director of the Mays Cancer Center, expressed his appreciation of the team and their dedication.
