Expanding education

January 19, 2024

The School of Dentistry introduced the first Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene program in Laredo. The two-year hybrid program, based at the UT Education and Research Center at Laredo, addresses a projected shortage of dental hygienists in South Texas through 2030 by training dental hygienists locally.




Breaking records and building futures

From ranking No. 1 in Texas, 7th nationally, for National Institutes of Health funding to launching Laredo’s first Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree program, the School of Dentistry made unprecedented strides in 2023, and looks to build on those achievements in the coming years.
