Doran, M.D. Class of 1973, presented a painting of the main campus to Marvin Forland, M.D., MACP, in honor of his pledge to elevate the Marvin Forland MD MACP Endowed Chair in Medicine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On July 20, 211 members of the Class of 2023 celebrated the beginning of their medical education at the White Coat Ceremony at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Joined by proud parents, siblings, spouses, grandparents, children and friends, medical students donned white coats for the first time and recited the Hippocratic Oath, a pledge to compassionately and ethically treat patients.<\/p>\n<p>The Class of 2023 includes 184 Texans and 27 students from out of state. The age range of the class is 20 to 45 years old. The class has 96 females and 115 male students. Seven of the students are in the M.D.\/Ph.D. dual program. Sixteen of them already hold master\u2019s degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Dean Robert Hromas, M.D., FACP, acknowledged that James \u201cLarry\u201d Holly, M.D. Class of 1973, a distinguished alumnus, made a special gift to these students who will graduate 50 years after he did from the Long School of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>To honor this class, Dr. Holly provided each student a UT Health San Antonio white coat and two sets of branded scrubs.
