Our innovative present and transformative future are based on this foundation of excellence.<\/p>\n<p>The record of the first 50 years of the School of Nursing is impressive. Yet it is but a beginning, a foundation for the future. \u201cHistory will continue to record the role of The University of Texas School of Nursing at San Antonio in the future of nursing,\u201d said Ruth Stewart, school archivist and historian.<\/p>\n<p>Major social, political and environmental influences have shaped our school since its beginnings. Myriad internal and external pressures have impacted health, nursing, higher education, the university and the nursing school. These major influences include the acute shortage of nurses following World War II.
