Acceptance into the nursing school’s SUNRISE program is confirming Aisha “Eesh” Silva’s decision to further her education by earning a graduate degree after she completes her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She wants to be a pediatric nurse and a nurse researcher in the community.



Derek Wallace, who will earn his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2018, is mentored by Darpan I. Patel, Ph.D. Wallace’s research concentrates on the inflammatory signaling of prostate cancer tumors that leads to muscle wasting.

Undergraduate student Derek Wallace brought previous lab experience to the SUNRISE program, but he was excited to learn he would actually plan the research project, perform experiments, conduct statistical analysis, and disseminate the findings.
