Faculty, Students Provide Care after Harvey

Hurricane Harvey made landfall the evening of Aug. 25, 2017, near Rockport, where maximum sustained winds were 130 miles per hour. The Category 4 hurricane left in its wake massive destruction of homes and buildings in this small coastal town and the surrounding areas.

As health care in the United States moves from hospital-based treat and release to patient-centered wellness care, the School of Nursing at UT Health San Antonio is strengthening community clinic partnerships and reemphasizing the impact social and behavioral determinants of health have on individuals in vulnerable populations.

UT Health San Antonio operates the San Antonio Refugee Health Clinic (SARHC) in partnership with the Center for Refugee Services of San Antonio, a non-profit organization with a mission to promote the wellness, self-sufficiency and successful community integration of resettled refugees and their families.
