Dr. Adriana Segura to Serve in New Leadership Role

Adriana Segura, D.D.S., M.S., assumed the role of the first associate dean for academic, faculty and student affairs for the School of Dentistry. The new position—spurred initially by the pending retirement of Birgit Junfin Glass, D.D.S., M.S., associate dean for academic affairs, in December—combines the former positions of associate deans for academic affairs and students affairs and addresses the overlapping areas between those two positions.

In this new role, Dr. Segura will be responsible for predoctoral curriculum planning and management, advanced education academic planning, predoctoral student academic performance and promotions, continuing dental education, faculty development, student recruitment, admissions, student activity and accreditation.

Dr. Segura, a tenured professor of pediatric dentistry, had served as associate dean for student affairs since 2009. She has been a member of the School of Dentistry since 1999.

She earned her D.D.S. from The UT Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry and did her residency in general dentistry at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Miami, Florida. Dr. Segura’s postdoctoral training was in pediatric dentistry at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
