Why we do ‘Everything it takes’

Dr. Henrich stands in a hallway.Recently, we adopted the theme “Everything it takes” to describe our commitment to offering top-tier education, breakthrough research, stellar patient care and compassionate community service at UT Health San Antonio. Together with our university’s tagline “We make lives better,” it puts into words the lengths we will go to fulfill our promise to do everything in our power to improve the health of our patients and our community.

UT Health San Antonio is pledged to lead in the cause of improving the human condition through exemplary care, discovery and teaching. Our partnerships with hospitals and many other organizations will help us in this task, even as we look to open a new specialty and research hospital and make it one of the best in our country. A new University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio (in collaboration with The University of Texas at San Antonio) will help us succeed in identifying important opportunities and then binding policy to actual progress in community health. And we’ll be guided by a robust and ambitious five-year strategic plan that seeks to sustain our excellence and expand access to life-saving care.

So much is riding on the success of these efforts. And in reality, it’s more than just our success that is at stake here. It is the lives we can save and improve. The lives we can rehabilitate; the lives that we can resuscitate. Doing this will enable a positive future for families, for our city, state and country.

So “Everything it takes” is not a cliché or a casual throwaway line. Rather, it is an acknowledgement of the fact that we understand that the attainment of our missions hinges on the full, unequivocal dedication of each in service to good health.
