Weiss is new dean of Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

David S. Weiss, Ph.D., was named dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and holder of the Dielmann Chair in Basic Biomedical Investigation.

Dr. Weiss has served as professor and chair of physiology since 2005 and is also a faculty member in the departments of Pharmacology and Neurology. His research has advanced the understanding of brain disorders such as epilepsy and the action of therapeutic drugs such as anxiety medications. His work is funded by the National Institutes of Health through 2014, and he receives significant funding from additional organizations including the American Heart Association.

Dr. Weiss is a past recipient of the prestigious Sen. Jacob Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The award, named for Sen. Javits, who was a strong advocate of research in a wide variety of disorders of the brain and nervous system, is considered to be one of the highest honors in the neurosciences.
