Juntos Podemos, a mentoring program launched in 2000 by the UT Health Science Center’s School of Nursing, will serve as the model for a similar program to be established by the National Association of Hispanic Nurses. As Hispanics make up less than 2 percent of the nation’s registered nurses, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses’ mentoring program will identify Hispanic students who aspire to enter careers in nursing and will assist them throughout their nursing education in Texas, Arizona and California. The program, which received $500,000 in federal funding, will include activities at the Health Science Center’s School of Nursing.
