  • Edward Ellis III, D.D.S., is the new chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was previously professor of surgery and director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. “Dr. Ellis brings a stellar national and international reputation to our university,” said Kenneth L. Kalkwarf, D.D.S., M.S., dean of the Dental School.
  • Brad H. Pollock, M.P.H., Ph.D., professor and chairman of epidemiology and biostatistics, is the new president-elect of the Association of Clinical and Translational Statisticians (ACTS). Dr. Pollock’s post begins Jan. 1, 2011. ACTS encourages members to share ideas about the design, implementation and analysis of studies conducted under the Clinical and Translational Science Award program.
  • Robert S. Schenken, M.D., professor and chairman of obstetrics and gynecology, was elected treasurer of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The board is an independent, nonprofit organization that certifies obstetricians and gynecologists in the U.S. Dr. Schenken holds the Humana Foundation Distinguished Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Long School of Medicine.
  • Ian M. Thompson Jr., M.D., professor and chair of urology, and executive director of the UT Health Science Center’s Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) has been elected a trustee of the American Board of Urology. Dr. Thompson holds the Glenda and Gary Woods Distinguished Chair in Genitourinary Oncology and the Henry B. and Edna Smith Dielmann Memorial Chair in Urologic Science.
