An additional $500,000 gift to the CTRC Foundation from Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers has elevated the Chair named in her honor to The Ruth McLean Bowman Bowers Distinguished Chair in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment. The CTRC Foundation is a partner organization dedicated to funding the CTRC and its clinical, research and educational programs. Distributions from the endowment will support the Comprehensive Breast Health Clinic at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio. Ian M. Thompson Jr., M.D., director of the CTRC, said: “We are immensely grateful to Mrs. Bowers, her daughter, Bonnie Korbell, and all of Mrs. Bowers’ family for this additional gift that will allow us to expand upon our goals to make the CTRC the choice destination for the best in cancer care in San Antonio.” Mrs. Bowers and Bonnie and her husband, John Korbell, have been steadfast supporters of the CTRC for many years. John Korbell served as president of the CTRC Foundation Board of Directors for six years. “Our hope is to pay tribute to Mrs. Bowers by realizing our vision for a world-class breast cancer research and treatment center for the citizens of our community and beyond,” Dr. Thompson said.

The Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio is one of the elite academic cancer centers in the country to be named a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Cancer Center, and is one of only four in Texas.
