At 67, George Moore appears to be the picture of health despite living with dementia and aphasia, which limits his ability to speak. His wife, Denise, often speaks on his behalf.<\/p>\n
The couple married in their 40s while living in Austin and moved to California in 2001. In 2017, while they were living in California, George was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe went into treatment right away but we were both a little shocked,\u201d Denise said. \u201cAt the time, he had just turned 60 and had just never had any issues.\u201d<\/p>\n
When he was diagnosed, George was told his prognosis was fewer than 10 years. The couple asked for an aggressive treatment plan and experienced years of disease stability and instability through various therapies.<\/p>\n
Now settled in San Marcos, Texas, George receives care at Mays Cancer Center, where he recently completed Pluvicto treatment. The most difficult part of his six infusion treatments, Denise said, was the physical distance they had to maintain afterward. To minimize exposure to radiation, patients must stay six feet from loved ones for three days and seven days from pets.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had to be very, very careful with exposure. I must have said 100 times a day, \u2018six feet,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t leave the house for three days. After seven days, we talked about going out to dinner, but I said, \u2018What if the waitress is pregnant? We can\u2019t take a chance of doing that.\u2019 So, we took long walks.\u201d<\/p>\n
In May of 2024, George received his final treatment at Mays Cancer Center. His prostatespecific antigen (PSA) level had dropped significantly and is nearly undetectable.<\/p>\n
