The Greehey Children\u2019s Cancer Research Institute (GCCRI) has had another outstanding year. We continue to attract extramural funding for pediatric cancer research. Our research has been reported in high-impact journals. And, we have made significant strides in achieving bench to bedside milestones.<\/p>\n

We have received funding from the National Institutes of Health, Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), U.S. Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, and private foundations in 2020. Interactions between faculty at GCCRI have continuously grown, as evidenced by the submission of multi-investigator grants to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.<\/p>\n

Research at GCCRI has led to repurposing a novel drug for the treatment of breast cancer and brain cancer. Research at GCCRI also has contributed to radically changing the treatment of pediatric low-grade brain tumors. In addition, based on a groundbreaking study, researchers at GCCRI are exploring the possibility of starting clinical trials for treating pediatric bone cancer.<\/p>\n

The Greehey Institute looks forward to continuing to develop drugs and drug combinations that move into clinical trials at UT Health San Antonio and through the Children\u2019s Oncology Group, an NCI-supported clinical trials group and the world\u2019s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research.<\/p>\n
